It is a question that the consultants at our showrooms are often asked by householders wanting to extend their residence: am I best opting for a solid roof extension, conservatory or orangery?

We begin by asking them what their reasoning is for wanting to have a home extension fitted and they usually reply with one of the following responses:

• I’m finding it difficult to make that next step up the property ladder
• I’m sick of having no space to play with
• I want a bigger home but have no desire to move
• I want to improve the resale value of my home
• I want to bring my home and garden a bit closer together

They’re all very valid reasons and it helps us to help them choose the home extension that’s most likely to work best.

Here’s a little summary of what each type of extension will bring to your home:

Solid roof extension

When an old conservatory or orangery ceases to provide the thermal efficiency needed during the summer and winter, the issue can be resolved by replacing the existing roof covering with a solid roof.

A solid roof can also be included in a newly installed conservatory and orangery so that you’re guaranteed warmth and coolness right from the word go. They’ll also improve privacy and usually cost less than a polycarbonate roof.

Our solid roof range consists of three different options – Ultraroof, Garden Rooms, Replacement.

Conservatories

There are so many varieties of conservatory around nowadays that you can easily be overwhelmed when trying to choose a favourite.

So that you get the right type of conservatory, we have outlined the key features of the most commonly found designs:

Edwardian – ageless design, high pitched roof, complements modern residences, flat walls.

Victorian – hexagonal or octagonal shape, curved front, suited to traditional homes.

Lean-To – condensed, most suitable for bungalows of all ages and homes with a low-pitched roof, amazingly roomy.

Gable – provides astounding views, impressive headspace, pulls in natural light, complements expansive period properties.

P-Shaped – comes with 3 or 5 sides, the P-shape allows to be used as two separate living spaces.

Bespoke – customise your conservatory so that it satisfies all your requirements.

Orangeries

An orangery utilises more brickwork than a conventional conservatory which helps make it blend in beautifully with a property and make it feel as though it has always been a part of the house.

You have a number of possible options in terms of how you utilise the generous amount of space provided by an orangery e.g. home office, gym, luxury dining room.

However an orangery is styled, it’s renowned for being the perfect accompaniment for homes of all ages, styles and character.
